Recently, there have been more of them, both in Dnipro and in the north of Chernihiv region. People see a huge "wasp" with red wings, buzzing like a drone, and get nervous. But they shouldn't be!
This is a giant scolia, one of the largest insects in Europe (up to 4.5 cm). It does not live in nests, does not gather in flocks, and does not attack people. It just flies around looking for a May beetle larva to do what no one else has done - reduce the number of May beetles in our soil.
Scolia is a natural eco-security. Its appearance is a signal that the biosystem is working.
